Members Present: Shirley Dinkel, Kathi Fair, Bruce Liese, Frank Stevenson, Nancy Howard, Jim Wilkins, Greg Trendel

Members Absent: None

Guests: Cathy Tripp, Steve Fugett, Roger Bartels – Board of Zoning Appeals

Call to Order: 7:00 Kathi.

Minutes: 12/12/05 Approved (Bruce/Greg) (5-0-1)

Request Petitions: None

Reports of Standing and Special Committees: Roger Bartels of the Board of Zoning Appeals requested discussion on the role of the BZA related to the Hasstert property. After much discussion, the LPZC recommends that a variance be granted retroactive to the completed construction (Jimmy/Nancy) (7-0). Shirley will construct a letter and forward it to Kathi.

Notices of Communication: None

Business:
1. Lecompton newsletter: Bruce and Jimmy will write an article regarding the LPZC for the next Lecompton newsletter.

2. Review of the last City Council meeting: Kathi reviewed items from the last City Council meeting in which LPZC members were present. Discussion was held on consideration of a city planner/manager, city code enforcement officer and other experts to guide the city. Shirley recommended that minutes be written by Kathi for that meeting to be posted for public record.

3. Vision for the city: Discussion was held on a vision for city growth. The LPZC strives for a strong working relationship with the City Council and community members. Discussion was also held on the upcoming election in April.

4. Mobile home park: Discussion was held on the mobile home park supporting travel trailers. Members of the LPZC will attend the next City Council meeting.

5. Craig Weinaug: Kathi reviewed her most recent communication with Craig Weinaug. Overall, he is supportive of the LPZC in their commitment to the growth of Lecompton.

6. Community Building: Discussion was held on fundraising for Community Building Improvements to the amount of $40,000. Bruce and Jimmy are discussing a 5 & 10K run during territorial days. Shirley recommended that a fun-walk also be included. Kathi and Nancy discussed a silent auction and canoe races. Jimmy suggested a chili feed with bingo and collaboration with the Lecompton Ball Association. It was also recommended that a gauge, such as a public “thermometer”, be on display to record fundraising successes.

After discussion with Roger Bartels and other members of the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Lecompton Planning and Zoning Commission recommends that a variance is granted to the Hassterts retroactive to the completed porch construction.
