ORDINANCE NO. 820

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER I, ARTICLE 2, SECTION 1-203 AND CHAPTER VI, ARTICLE 1, SECTION 6-102 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF LECOMPTON, KANSAS, REGARDING REGULAR MEETINGS AND COMMENCEMENT OF TERMS OF OFFICE AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF LECOMPTON, KANSAS:

SECTION 1. Section 1-203 of the Code of the City of Lecompton, Kansas is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-203 SAME; MEETINGS. (a) For the month of January, regular meetings of the governing body shall be held on the first, second, and third Mondays of that month at 7:00 p.m. CST in the city hall. For the remaining months of the year, regular meetings of the governing body shall be held on the first and third Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m. CST in the city hall. In the event the regular meeting day shall fall on any legal holiday or any day observed as a holiday by the city offices, the governing body shall fix the succeeding day not observed as a holiday as a meeting day.

(b) Special meetings may be called by the mayor or acting mayor, on the written request of any three members of the city council, specifying the object and purpose of such meeting, which request shall be read at a meeting and entered at length on the journal.

(c) Regular or special meetings of the governing body may be adjourned for the completion of its business at such subsequent time and place as the governing body shall determine in its motion to adjourn.

SECTION 2. Section 6-102 of the Code of the City of Lecompton, Kansas is hereby amended to read as follows:

6-102. COMMENCEMENT OF TERMS OF OFFICE; OATH OF OFFICE. (a) The term of office for newly elected city officials shall commence on the second Monday in January following certification of the election by the county election officer.

(b) Every person elected or appointed to city office, before entering upon the duties of such office, shall take and subscribe an oath or affirmation as specified in K.S.A. 54-106, and amendments thereto, and every such oath or affirmation shall be filed with the city clerk.

SECTION 3. All ordinances or parts or sections of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from the 1st day of January, 2018, or after its adoption and publication in the official city newspaper, whichever occurs last.
