October 05, 2020 LECOMPTON CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

7:00 P.M. Mayor Jimmy Wilkins brought the Lecompton City Council Meeting to order at 327 Elmore, Lecompton, KS. Council Members Mary Jane Hoffer, Stephanie Confer, Matt Roberts and Owen Mallonee were present at roll call. Councilman Tim McNish was absent. The following were also present: City Clerk Lynley Sanford, City Superintendent Rance Roberts and City Attorney Jeff Heiman. Residents or township members attending included Paul Bahnmaier. Meeting was streamed on Facebook live.

Owen Mallonee motioned to approve the meeting minutes for the September 21st, 2020. Matt Roberts seconded the motion.
Motion passed 4 yeas, 0 nays

Stephanie Confer motioned to approve the bills before the City Council. Mary Jane Hoffer seconded the motion.
Motion passed 4 yeas, 0 nays.

Paul Bahnmaier spoke with the council regarding the I-70/Farmers turnpike interchange. Want to make sure it stays named the Lecompton interchange. Suggested it might be prudent for the City to write a letter stating the importance of the interchange keeping its name for the City of Lecompton. Jimmy said he would speak with Robin directly.

Jeff Heiman –
– No updates currently

Rance Roberts –
– 2nd Street lift station needed some attention, called Haynes to assist – repair was made and lift station was put back into service.
– Ordered a confined space entry tri-pod kit – it is needed to enter spaces like the lift station.
– Water leak on 2nd street, Torgeson trenching came out and provided assistance
– Aerator float repairs were completed – will get motor attached and put back into service.

Lynley Sanford
– Resolution 309 for sidewalk grant. Mary Jane Hoffer motioned to approve resolution 309, Stephanie Confer seconded the motion.

– Report regarding teens bullying younger kids at the elementary playground – council recommends the school district be informed in the future.
– Pitney Bowes contract – council agreed to renew at clerks discretion
– Fall Newsletter – review edits – Will print and mail by Friday 10/9
– Reviewed dirt work bids – council suggested getting the opinion of a foundation repair person before proceeding.
New Business –
– Tunnel at PRIDE HVAC room – needs new rubber roof –no bids arrived before this meeting, put on next agenda.
– Clerk received 2 complaints water is too soft, hard to wash soap off hands, concerns about slipping in bathtub.
– Christmas Decorations – Council asked for it to be placed in the next agenda.
– Winter events such as the Christmas light contest and the Santa event. Council agreed we would still like to have them in some capacity.
