October 19, 2020 LECOMPTON CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
7:00 P.M. Mayor Jimmy Wilkins brought the Lecompton City Council Meeting to order at 327 Elmore, Lecompton, KS. Council Members Tim McNish, Mary Jane Hoffer, Stephanie Confer, Matt Roberts and Owen Mallonee were present at roll call. The following were also present: City Clerk Lynley Sanford and City Superintendent Rance Roberts. Residents or township members attending included Kevin Kelley. Meeting was streamed on Facebook live.
Owen Mallonee motioned to approve the meeting minutes for the October 5th, 2020. Mary Jane Hoffer seconded the motion.
Motion passed 5 yeas, 0 nays
Matt Roberts motioned to approve the bills before the City Council. Stephanie Confer seconded the motion.
Motion passed 5 yeas, 0 nays.
Kevin Kelley with Peaslee Tech spoke with the council regarding funding available to those affected by COVID-19 that are need to take a free class while money from the grant is still available. R.I.S.E (Rise, Income, Security& Equity)
Rance Roberts –
– On new maintenance building – would the council authorize a toilet? – Consensus of the council, yes make sure a bathroom is included, that there is adequate lighting and plumbed for air and electrical needs.
– Maintenance for the water-plant, changing out pneumatic valve versus installing new electrical valves. Alliance is who RWD #3 uses. Council recommended to have them come out and look at our system and bid to replace all pneumatic valves and replace with electronic.
– Owen had looked up part for furnaces in the water-plant. Over $1200.00 worth of parts. Owen suggest moving the location of the furnace to over the office and running duct work to the area where the furnace is currently located. He suggested calling Andy Schlink.
Lynley Sanford
– Spoke to council regarding the grading work and holes on West side of City building. Both Wagner and Windler foundation recommendations.
Stephanie Confer motioned to approve Windler Foundation repair suggestions, Mary Jane Hoffer seconded the motion. Motion passed 5 yeas, 0 nays.
New Business –
– Tunnel at PRIDE HVAC room – needs new rubber roof – reviewed bids from Eaton Roofing and Midwest coating.
Owen Mallonee motioned to approve the bid from Eaton after verifying that the bid is for full roof replacement. Matt Roberts seconded the motion.
Motion passed 5 yeas, 0 nays.
– Christmas light contest awards – council decided to stick with award rates from last year.
– Councilman Tim McNish brought up needing to find permanent help for Superintendent, but we need to edit job description and run an ad for the right person.
