About the City of Lecompton

Lecompton is a vibrant sprawling rural community in Douglas County with an enamoring Civil War History.
Lecompton (Kansas Territorial Capital) is the site of the writing of the controversial “Lecompton Constitution” for admittance of Kansas into the union as a pro-slavery state. The document written in Constitution Hall, sparked a chain of events that divided the nation and eventually climaxed into the Civil War.

Originally called “Bald Eagle”, historic Lecompton is located about half way between Topeka and Lawrence. Three miles from highway 40 or 24 and also five miles from the Lecompton Turnpike Interchange, Exit 197.

City Council

Lecompton City Council Meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Mondays of every month and begin promptly at 7pm

Meetings are held at the Lecompton City Hall Offices at 327 Elmore, Lecompton KS 66050 unless otherwise noted or posted.

City Holidays

The City of Lecompton recognizes the following Holidays. City Hall will be closed on these days. If a recognized holiday falls on a city council meeting night, the council meeting will be held the next day (Tuesday).

If the holiday falls on the weekend the city will observe the holiday during the week. For example. Saturday holidays are generally observed by closing the office on Friday. Sunday holidays are generally observed by closing the office on Monday.
